What happened to Karen?

Class today was somewhat interesting. We were supposed to have a guest speaker again by the name of Karen Deon. However, somewhere between Columbus and Athens we lost her. Hopefully she is okay? That worries me a little. But in a nutshell, I am going to try to describe the role of Karen based off what our professor presented today.

Karen is the executive director of the Ohio Board of Dietetics which is a state government program. It is evaluated and monitored by the state government., however I do believe the federal government probably oversees every aspect of the program. Karen Deon's role encompasses many different things, but she primarily controls/manages the office. One thing about being the executive director is that you MUST be an Registered Dietitian. So yes...Ms. Deon is a RD. Her salary comes from licensure fees. These fees cover board related business all in all. The mission of the board is to protect the public from harm that evolves from inappropriate practice of a dietitian. On the website, I believe the mission specifically states: "regulating the practice of dietetics through licensure and regulating nutritional practice in order to protect the public. In general, the nutritional professional of the program can become the executive director or serve as a member on the board (if licensed). Therefore, it is a promising future for a RD if that is something one is interested in.

again...I hope Karen is alright out there. :)
