Good afternoon everyone-
So today was comprised of a discussion with a speaker by the name of Janine Faber, RD, MEd, LD , from the Healthy Living Meijer Team. She was amazing. I feel like her job, which is essentially community nutrition, involved numerous things. And overall, I believe this is a future position I would be interested in doing. So Meijer Healthy Living is a program that seeks to increase sales and promote costumer loyalty be creating and communicating health solutions and product knowledge to shoppers at Meijer stores. To back up, Meijer is a "one stop" shopping store. It is located in Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. The Healthy Living Team is composed over registered dietitians who had a masters team and brings to the table some type of specialty. For instance, Janine had a masters in health education therefore her specialty encompasses that area. Another woman has a personal chef background and brings that to the team. Meijer Healthy Living is funded by all the sponsors that the program gets; this include but is not limited to Dole salad bags, Dove on occasion, Barilla, etc. The team does have some say who can, and cannot be a sponsor of the program. Essentially, what the program entails is that each team member is responsible for a district in which they do community events (fairs, expos, cooking demos), in-store events (disease management, cooking with sports teams), media (facebook, twitter, tailgating) and publications. It is the responsibility of each dietitians to set their own agenda and try to do so many quality events in a given month.
This may sound cocky, but I feel that I could fit very well into this type of position. I know how to organize my time and set an agenda, speak with media, organize events, interact with people, and I have experience in in-store events, cooking demos, etc. Therefore, I hope that someday I can be just like Janine and her other team members. My interest in sports nutrition can bring a whole new variety to the tables. :)
